Guest BluesLover Posted November 15, 2008 #1 Posted November 15, 2008 (edited) Hey folks - guess what I found?? Search eBay for Item # 130268795530 That is my old bike, that was written off by the insurance company. Interesting how the seller claims that "it can likely be repaired for a few hundred" when the insurance company told me it was $14K to repair it! I guess I got my "drop quotient" all factored incorrectly too ... looks like when we went down in Minden, it was only a "minor drop"!!! LOL Cheers, Edited November 15, 2008 by BluesLover

She don't look too bad to me... My 03 was in worse shape than that when I bought it in 05 for $8500... But it only had 10K miles... I had to replace the Gas Tank, Upper Fairing, Front Fender and lived with a few scatches here and there... How much could you have bought it back for?
eazyduzzit Posted November 15, 2008 #3 Posted November 15, 2008 If I bought it, I wonder if the dealer would fix it for "a few hundred".
Squidley Posted November 15, 2008 #4 Posted November 15, 2008 If I bought it, I wonder if the dealer would fix it for "a few hundred". If he does...I have some ocean front property in Arizona I would like to sell you
tazmocycle Posted November 15, 2008 #5 Posted November 15, 2008 my '01 standard royal star was damaged by a girl backing into it and knocking it over, minor scratches and bent back fender. yamaha dealer quoted $4700 to repair, my ins co gave that minus 250 deducable. taking it down to do paint job and a few engine updates and v-max rearend, should be around $2000 unless i go wild with paint job!! some times people that haven't really done any repairs will look at it and think there's not that much wrong with it. but when you get it torn down, you see ALL the damage.
MAINEAC Posted November 15, 2008 #6 Posted November 15, 2008 If I bought it, I wonder if the dealer would fix it for "a few hundred". No a Dealer would not and could not fix for a few hundred... I don't go to a Dealer for anything but warranty work anyways... But I can turn a wrench and am too poor to buy a brandy new shiney bike but I could fix that bike up for 4-500 bucks... And it would ride up and down the road with any RUB's new bike... It looks like it's road worthy right now and could be fixed up while riding it... Depending on the price it might make somebody a pretty good deal... That's only one Poor White Biker Trash opinion
Guest BluesLover Posted November 15, 2008 #7 Posted November 15, 2008 How much could you have bought it back for? When the better half said that she would/could not see herself getting on the back of the old bike, I never pursued buying it back. I'm thinking it would have been around $4 to $5K canadian, given what the settlement was and the stated cost to repair. Cheers,
MAINEAC Posted November 20, 2008 #9 Posted November 20, 2008 Hey Lou your bike didn't sell... It didn't make reserve with the last bid of $5,735.34 .. I wonder if coming from Canada scared some off... A couple of interesting things tho... The seller said it has a "Clean Title".. How can that be if your Insurance Co. totaled it? Also the seller listed it as having no warranty... The ad was kinda amateurish and didn't really spell out or show the damage which I think is necessary when selling a damaged bike..

A "clean title" to me means there are no liens or encumberances on it.

Laid my 2002 down a week and a half ago, Progressive adjuster came 2 days later and totaled it out for 10800 and I bought it back for 3500. Nothing changed with the title meaning it's not a salvage title. Kept all the same paperwork and the adjuster said it is still totally insurable for full coverage, comp and collision. He said just keep receipts, take pictures etc for all the repairs and paint just incase something happens in the future it will all be covered again. All parts on order and going to get some custom painting done. Will post pics in a couple of weeks of the finished product.
Eck Posted November 20, 2008 #12 Posted November 20, 2008 wonder what the RED WIRE is for that is showing under the handle bar.....?? An ignition problem maybe?
MAINEAC Posted November 20, 2008 #13 Posted November 20, 2008 I don't see it but maybe it's the passing lamp wire...
Guest BluesLover Posted November 20, 2008 #14 Posted November 20, 2008 I don't see it but maybe it's the passing lamp wire... I don't recall a red wire on the bike when I saw it last. I had gone up to remove the wiring for my GPS and at that time, there was nothing. You're probably right - they may have started to take the passing lamps off (since that was damage that wasn't easily hidden) and it got too complicated for them!!! LOL Cheers,

There were way too many "little white lies" in all of this. A buddy of mine called the seller to try and get more info from them about what kind of "lay-down" it had been in, and they wouldn't give him anything. Not sure how that works with the title, and I don't know that it actually got labelled as "salvage". The adjuster that I spoke to, told me that they were going to "write-off" the bike, but when I went to the dealer where it was being kept to pick up my personal stuff, one of the guys at the dealer's let it slip out that the towing company had already "bought" the bike. I also noticed that the pictures of the bike were taken at a distance far enough away that the damage was not really visible. Also noted that the feedback on the vendor wasn't exactly exemplary! Cheers,
