Anyone know where I can get the chrome strips that fit on the outside edge of the front fairing on the first gen just below the mirrors? What is the official name for them?

If your on about the 3 chrome strips, Yamaha on the centre strip? then you'll get them from eBay 2nd hand quite cheaply. If you want them new check this site out:- http://www.cmsnl.com/search.php?s_name=xvz

 

I do live in the UK so the site is in Euros, but it'll give you an idea of the price.

I've had 2 - 1st gen's... an '85 and an '87 ... don't have such an animal on either.. interested to know exactly what you're referring to ( picture would be nice ). Or maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're referencing???

Ah... another "VentureLine" custom option. A metal "tub" shaped item about 4 inches long that fit over the outside upper "corner" of the fairing... out on the far edges.

 

Pretty rare and pretty expensive when they appear.

 

I would call them an edge protector.

Hi Mike, good info, I misunderstood him in thinking he meant the 3 chrome trim pieces, the chrome does wear away, as it has on my.

Yes, thats it. The reason that I am looking for a set is that they did their intended job of "edge protecting" and probably saved major damage to the fairing on both sides. Don't ask about learning to ride at age 50 and beginning with an eight hundred touring bike. I am better now and have kept the rubber side down for the past 3 years. No applause please!

 

So I am looking to replace them. One is lost and the other doesn't look so good.

You could do like I did on mine, and use some wide adhesive chrome molding available at most auto accessories store...

Or fit a stabiliser like what I did.
