Freebird Posted October 31, 2008 #1 Posted October 31, 2008 Anybody here know anything about Indian motorcycles? I've found an old one that needs a LOT of work. It's a small one, probably manufactured by Royal Enfield and badged for Indian. He's not sure what size it is. He said maybe 350cc but I'm thinking maybe 500cc. I haven't seen it in person, only these very bad photos. The vin number is vin#e11512147 1e513 Not sure if the last part of that number is actually part of the vin or not. Year model is 1956
pegscraper Posted October 31, 2008 #2 Posted October 31, 2008 You're right, those aren't good photos. Can you say basket case? Is it at least complete? I don't know much about them. But I know that those who have restored them are proud of their work, both when they're showing them off and if they ever want to sell one.
93 venture Posted October 31, 2008 #3 Posted October 31, 2008 Indian Motorcycle 1956 Indian Royal Enfield. 750cc Interceptor, twin carb, rebuilt by Starklite Motorcycles in 1999. A collectable at $9,500 Hard to tell from them pictures, kinda looks like it
keithert Posted October 31, 2008 #4 Posted October 31, 2008 If you want an old bike why not get a "new" Royal Enfield?

VTirelli Posted October 31, 2008 #7 Posted October 31, 2008 Regular glutton for punishment aint ya?? If you have that much free time, it tells me that we're not keeping you busy enough. heehee If that isn't too far gone, it looks like a fun project though. And if it's worth 9500 restored?? YIPPEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!
rod Posted October 31, 2008 #8 Posted October 31, 2008 Contact Bob Stark at Starklite. He is in Paris Ca just north of San Diego. He is the all knowing Oz of Indians. He has all the old tooling to make the parts and is world renowned as the #1 authority. I have taken a tour of his place a few times and even got to ride a couple of his restorations. If you need more info email me. Rod
Freebird Posted October 31, 2008 Author #9 Posted October 31, 2008 This one may need a bit of tinkering. He's asking $800.00 for it though and it may be fun to mess with. It does turn over but don't know if it will start.
pegscraper Posted November 1, 2008 #10 Posted November 1, 2008 Oh, why not? A bike would have to be a lot easier to restore than a car. Maybe not much cheaper though.
bongobobny Posted November 1, 2008 #11 Posted November 1, 2008 Well, it IS an Indian... Lotsa work there, Don, and a commitment fer sure. It wlould take up a lot of your spare time, but in the end you would have a very nice bike to be proud of.
Yammer Dan Posted November 1, 2008 #12 Posted November 1, 2008 Now what is the Pond Monster gonna Ride???
StarFan Posted November 1, 2008 #13 Posted November 1, 2008 Don you should go for it. Even though these Indians are by many rated as troublesome bikes then they do have a high price tag. And also if you find out that it is to much of a work and hazzle to restore it you can always sell it. For me its a no loose situation. Looking forward to see it all chromed and shiny in the spring on maintenance day.
