1rooster Posted October 29, 2008 #1 Posted October 29, 2008 Found a 84 venture with a new paint job, runs great but......charging system doesn't charge.Needs to be charged after daily rides but other than that it appears to be a great bike...and the price is a STEAL..Where would one start looking for this problem?
mini-muffin Posted October 30, 2008 #2 Posted October 30, 2008 Well guess the first thing would be is the battery good. Then there's the rectifier I think it is on a bike. I think it's like the alternator on a car. I'm sure the guys will let you know. Margaret
Condor Posted October 30, 2008 #3 Posted October 30, 2008 Check the three white wire connector before doing anything else. They get corroded and over heat, lose it's connection, and causing the stator not to work. There's a ton of info on the subject here on this board. Do a search for 3 or three white. Also put a multi-tester on the battery posts while it's running. You should get 14vdc to 14.2vdc when the engine rmp is over 2000. If you are getting output you have a bad battery. After that it's replacing the rectifyer or stator.

Marcarl Posted October 30, 2008 #5 Posted October 30, 2008 Three white wires, under the left side panel, about half ways down. Take it apart and decide if it's an issue,,, don't just look at them,,, take the connector apart.
