this summer i had taked mine to work for a week, just to keep putting some miles on her, mine is the 1100xs special, flatter handle bars, and the speedometer and tack are round, has lots of get up and go, but the top end is low, and after a week i am more than happy to get the venture back out

Unlike a lot of bikes, the XSEleven was just about at it's optimal development when it hit the street in 1978 through 1979 before Mamaha started reverse engineering it to meet EPA requirements. I had a 78 and liked it so much I bought a 79 as well. I dressed both bikes out, opting for my dealer recommended pacifico farings rather than vetters mainly because just about every one else was using the vetter and on top of liking the looks of the pacifico better, I wanted to be able to find mine in a parking lot full of bikes! Bag wise, I had detachable luggage on the 78 and vetter bags/trunk on the 79. I GYT kitted the 78 and did some other stuff to it, the 79 remained stock. Other than a couple of TCI wire problems (that is why we always used to carry shrink wrap around!) neither bike had any mechanical problems. 105K miles on the 79 and sold it, put over 135K on the 78, sold it in 95 and started using my 91 VR full time. I wish I still had my 78!!!

I had a XS1100 in class last week. The students 1st bike and he was the 3rd owner. It was in fantastic shape and he payed $1,700 for it. At the end of the day the battery was worn down and I push started it. I offered to take it off his hands but he declined . Rod

Great pictures and I know you all had a great time.

I had a 81 XS11 with Pacifico fairing, Bates bags and a Vetter trunk, Kawasaki bag rails and a home made trailer hitch. It was one Heck of a bike and I loved putting the s-miles on her. Bought the bike stock and started adding stuff from a motorcycle salvage place in Colorado. Lots of time thinking of things to do to it. Added a radio cassette player and a one hand CB radio and used chrome cabinet door handles as rails along the trunk.

Painted her Burgundy and silver with blue strips. The guy who bought it from me still rides it to this day. GREAT BIKE and thanks for the walk down memories lane.............Ron

Thanks for the replys. Wasn't sure about making the post on here but I knew several people had these old bikes and then went on to the Venture and looks like some memories came alive:-)

I built my bike also, didn't like the factory fairing or bags and set it up how I want it.So after 28 years it's still motoring, all original, clutch, starter etc. and the carbs have never been touched.
