hipshot Posted October 28, 2008 #1 Posted October 28, 2008 i thought my back was "going out", on me last friday, so i took it REAL easy, all day. Saturday morning, i just had a "BURNING sensation, across my belt line. by noon saturday, i had what felt like "high voltage electrical shocks", running down the back of my left leg. my son was home, for two days, so i had him put my monitor and keyboard, down here on the floor, so i could use them! spent the last three days, flat on my back, on the floor. TODAY, things are easing up , a little. when i walk, it feels like i'm stepping on a thousand thumb tacks, but that will soon wear off. has anyone else got a "ruined back"? now you all know why i use this little guy. just jt

Actually my neck is the major pain I have.
Yammer Dan Posted October 28, 2008 #3 Posted October 28, 2008 Hope it eases up soon. Mine hasn't acted up in a while. I think all the other damage to my body don't give it a chance. It tightens up when I've been on my feet too long (every day) but don't act up like it used to. I feel for ya. A little Jack & Coke and you feel better for a while.
BIG TOM Posted October 28, 2008 #4 Posted October 28, 2008 YOU BET IN AUGUST I TORE A LIGAMENT BETWEEN MY BACK AND MY HIP...ONE WEEK ON MY BACK..WAS FEELING BRETTY GOOD ABOUT THE END OF SEPTEMBER THEN WHAM... ITS HARD TO BE A GOOD PATIENT..
Grandpagak Posted October 28, 2008 #5 Posted October 28, 2008 sorry to hear that, jt.. hope you recover real soon..
Nighthawk II Posted October 28, 2008 #6 Posted October 28, 2008 Oooooh yes, I've got a degenerating L-5 vertibrae with a slightly bulging disk. It is painful. It to is right at my beltline and effects the siatic nerve that goes from the spine and down the legs (the walking on tacks feeling).I have tried the epideral shots and physical theropy (exercises for the lower back). The theropy seems to help the most. The shots were a series of three and the effect only lasted about 3 days. Sometimes the pain was so bad that it was very difficult to even lay in one position for any time at all. Driving was almost impossible for any distance. I have a series of exercies that I do as often as I can to help to keep the pain tolerable so I can go to work. Best advise I can give is to see an Ortopedist to get a correct diagnosis.

Guest tessa c2 Posted October 28, 2008 #8 Posted October 28, 2008 it just must be the moon phase, mine has been darn sore the past couple of weeks also. then i am good for as day, then it is right back to where it was, but i still have a couple of chairs i can sit on:happy34:
Nighthawk II Posted October 28, 2008 #9 Posted October 28, 2008 Sounds like you've bought the hospital a new wing. Did they name it after you or the Dr.? They always seem to get the credit for your
Snarley Bill Posted October 28, 2008 #10 Posted October 28, 2008 jt , i would say you have a ruptured lower disc and a pinched siatic nerve. i've got one and some times my legs feel like they are on fire. had it since i was 23 and just learned to live with the pain. seems like a normal way of life anymore. can't imagine what a day without pain would be like. really sends a shock wave when i hit a bump in the road, and the bike bottoms out. no way to fix it accept exercise. bill
kenw Posted October 28, 2008 #11 Posted October 28, 2008 I have some deformed veribre in my lower back. Some days it doesn't matter, others My leg in numb and I can barely walk! My greatest fear is to be out on the bike and have this happen, altough I can usually work it out in a few hours. Welcome to the grow old club! Kenw

I too have degenerative, osteo and rhumatoid arthritis. Mine has really started to act up since I can't ride. Seemed that was the only comfortable position for me. Driving my SUV really aggravates it. Oh well, the price we pay for the fun we had when we were young, only trouble is I sure don't remember this much fun
RoyalPain Posted October 28, 2008 #13 Posted October 28, 2008 Hey Hipshot, I hope your on your feet again fast! I'll offer up one piece of advise that most everyone thats posted so far would agree with. Don't blow it off as something minimal even if your up and doing the hammer dance first thing in the morning! Get in and get it checked out. Things like this can get real bad, real fast. I'm gonna be off my bike for Dog only knows how long because I broke my tailbone a couple of weeks ago and I'm still waiting on the "feeling a little better" part. Take a close look at my new avitar, I made it as one of my many efforts to keep my sense of humor. Pain
Squidley Posted October 28, 2008 #14 Posted October 28, 2008 Yep....Here too L4 L5 degenerative discs and I have had it so bad (like a month ago) that I couldn't even walk. Every morning I stretch at work for about 15 minutes before we have out maintenance meeting, and then again before I go home. Sure do wish that God would have made the human body like a car with new replacement parts
DragonRider Posted October 28, 2008 #15 Posted October 28, 2008 I have had a bad back for over 30 years since an accident (auto) left me with a fractured vertabrae, the bad neck , another auto accident, left me with bad neck, had to have two discs removed and fused, so I have constant pains and aches from top to bottom, believe it or not, I am the most comfortable with my back while riding my bike, the neck starts to ache after a few hours of riding, so I just medicate and bear it............Now my wife is having total body letdown, with back, knee, hip, you name it, shes got it so bad no riding anymore, its really sad when your midlife seems like your closer to afterlife............. If I were you I would go to the Dr. and see whats causing your pain, dont let it ride, it will only get worse, believe me I know from experience. Your back just doesnt start hurting without good reason............the sensations in your feet is not a good sign at all. Good luck, will be praying for you.
ADC Posted October 28, 2008 #16 Posted October 28, 2008 Jt I hope you get back on your feet real soon. After reading all these posts you guys don't know how blessed I feel right now,I've never had any back problems other than maybe a pulled muscle a long time ago.At my job I'm walking bending and lifting all day long.In my old age I started tae kwon do classes 2 nights a week, I'm the oldest student and have recently advanced to blue belt and at 55 I can keep up with the 20 and 30 somethings. I truly hope and pray each one of you will find relief. Arthur
BigBoyinMS Posted October 28, 2008 #17 Posted October 28, 2008 I know sorta how you feel, hipshot. When I was 19 I was stronger rather that smarter so I picked up the front of a Honda car while the driver was revving trying to leave. I couldn't drop it because (I thought) he had it in forward gears. That pain only lasted a few days but it messed up a muscle and at age 30 I started having episodes where it would suddenly pull my spine out of line and pinch nerves. Seemed like once a year it would happen and I would be in bed in horrible pain for a week to week and a half. And it always seemed to be aching. I'm happy to say that I have been lucky. Either my Chiro did good work or I healed over time. Hardy ever any issue with in in the last few years. Oh, and I've done the laying on the floor with the keyboard thing many days.
yankeereb Posted October 28, 2008 #18 Posted October 28, 2008 I have had back problems since i enjured it in the service in 1966. It has gotten progresssively worse over the years. I now have buldging disks in l3 to L5 area and pinched siatic nerve. Some days I have to use a cane to walk. But I still ride and I will until I am forced into a wheel chair. Then I will trike the bike and ride some more.
rod Posted October 28, 2008 #19 Posted October 28, 2008 I was just at the Dr. yesterday for an evaluation from an accident (Me 99 ranger him big dump truck) where I was rear ended. 5 bad disks, thank god for vicodine and flexaral. It is funny that the most comfortable ride I have for my back is the Venture. Getting on is hard but once on I'm OK. The back rest and floorboards give me lots of room to get comfortable. The back has made me drop the bike a couple of times but only when stopped. Good luck and take it easy. Broke down Rod

1BigDog Posted October 28, 2008 #21 Posted October 28, 2008 I can sympathize with ya a bit JT. While my back is so-so, my knees cry out all day long. Sometimes they even lock up for a while. No cartledge and torn meniscus. Yep, getting old is real fun.........
