saddlebum Posted October 27, 2008 #1 Posted October 27, 2008 Manage to pop the miror galss out and back in again on a first gen to get at the swivel screw without breaking it. I was thinking of attemting it with the help of a hot air gun to try to clean up the swival so i can proper adjust and keep my mirror position.
86er Posted October 27, 2008 #2 Posted October 27, 2008 I'm gonna be curious to see if anyone has had any luck with this as well, Ben. I've got the same issue.
mbrood Posted October 27, 2008 #3 Posted October 27, 2008 I've a friend in England that took the mirror off, used a dremmel to cut a slot in the BOTTOM of the tensioning screw and tightened it THAT way.
bongobobny Posted October 27, 2008 #4 Posted October 27, 2008 Hey!! There's an idea whose time has come!!! I like it!!

That is a good tip and I have actually done that myself .but what I want to do is completely dissassemble it clean it and lightly lube it so it moves smoothly whenever you readjust it, yet stays in place once adjusted.
mother Posted October 28, 2008 #6 Posted October 28, 2008 the mirror glass broke while i tried to gently pry it out. the mirror glass is very thin.
rod Posted October 28, 2008 #7 Posted October 28, 2008 I don't know about the 1st Gen mirrors but on a regular mirror I floated carb cleaner on it over night to soften the glue and pryed the mirror out. Rod
