Steering problems

Was told the r/s venture has a recall re: Steering?? Anyone know of this?

The last time I heard of any problem with the steering head bearings was back in 83 and it was never a recall issue.

 

Knowing the details of this component, I can't even imagine of factory recall. Now on the GL1800 and ST1300s I've heard of issues with the steering head bearings and some serious head shakes, but even then it has not turned into a recall.

There is another thread in the 2nd Gen section that talks about tightening the steering head. Lubricating the bearings may be a good preventative maintenance for these Ventures. When I reach 15K, I may tackle some of the lubrication points and let the shop deal with the harder parts of lubricating my Venture.

Just got mine out of shop/ tightening steering head. much better. Lub all points. new tires ( Avons ) it was my 16,000 Check up. Guys the streeing head ( Got to be TORQED

Did the shop just tightened your steering head or did they tightened and added grease to the bearings?

They Grease it to. Had front end off ground. Its real good now.

Could you describe how your steering felt before you had the bearings greased.

I bet the biggest change was the titres......The Ventures feel like a different bike with the Avons
