First time poster.. New Member ... My low fuel light doesnt come on and my trip meter doesnt switch to R-Trip Ran out of fuel twice already trying to see if it will come on. Is there a sending unit? Is there a way to check the bulb or circuit? Help.... Sounds like a great idea, Though I can live without it if I have to..

I had mine go out while it was still under warranty back in 2004. The sending unit was bad. The dealer had to replace the whole speedo assembly too. Since your bike is out of warranty the new unit is pretty expensive. Im not sure how to check/fix the sending unit. The impression that I got from the dealer was the dash and sensor was a matched unit so he replaced the whole thing. Whether that was true or not I dont know.

You say you ran out of fuel twice. Was that just for test purposes or do you use the reserve switch on your petcock?

I went to reserve both times, I still had a Bar or two left on the fuel gauge and was surprised that it sputtered so early NO low fuel light or switch to reserve fuel trip meter.

Greg,

I did a 80% 2 Up Run and got an average 40 MPG x 6 gallons = 240 miles (Does your trip-o-meter work?). I actually got a Grand Total of 256miles because I had 1.25 gallon gas can in the trunk and ran it empty during my test. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU.

Greg I never saw my light come on neither (on my 99), and the counter only once or twice. I hit reserve often.

I personally never worried about it. Just fill and go. Maybe it is a problem with the 99;s LOL
