Okay now. I have a fat head. Now I'm 6'5 and 275 so it fits me fine but it makes buying a helmet very hard. I have a full face HJC XXXL. It's the 2nd one and the 2nd fits no better than the 1st. The local dealer says this is the biggest helmet out here except for some really cheap $69 helmet that looks like crap in the pics. It comes in at either 4 or 5 X. Does anyone have this issue or know of any larger helmets on the market?

I looked on the Extreme Supply , www.extremesupply.com , site for different helmets. On their sizing chart they list 2 companies that offer a 4X helmet. Those are Bell and Pyrotect brands. The Bell is reputed to be a good helmet. I do not know anything about a Pyrotect, actually I have never heard of them.

If I were looking for an odd helmet, I would find a dealer that has a good supply, then ask them to order the size I wanted. Not only will this save you shipping, but it may even save you have to pay for shipping on anything you return. My local dealer will return anything that wont fit free of charge.

Hope this helps.

I have a Vega helmet in 4xl.

I know of no other company that makes em that big.

The only color they have in that size is black though.

I have a 3XL HJC open face helmet that I normally wear and only use the Vega for inclement weather.

Here's an overly simplified idea . . ., but it might be worth attempting contact with some of the more well know helmet manufacturers directly. After all, there just has to be a number of other people around who have big heads (or maybe really big ears) that wear helmets. I wear a XXL and I thought that I had a pretty big head.

I recently switched from a HJC flip-up to a Shoei Multitec, and it's surprising how a different brand helmet can fit so much better. There was nothing wrong with the HJC, but apparently my Shoei has just a better shape for my head.

Good luck! I'll keep my ears and eys open for ya.

Be Safe! Pete.

The Shoei fits good with me too. Their sizing chart seems to be very accurate. At least with my size.

Most helmets are made for Charlie Brown. I however do not have a round head like him and find that fitting a helmet is rather difficult also. I bought one that fit on the sides fairly well and was pretty tight in the front/back. Yes, I have an oval head. When I got the helmet home I pulled the liner out and got the 40 grit sandpaper and went to work. A little out in the front at the sides, a little out in the back all the way across, and reinstall the liner. test fit says I'm going the right way, but need more material out. When i finished I had a helmet that fits well enough that I kept it on my head first trip out for 30 hours of non stop(except for gas) riding. According to my local dealer the small amount of foam I sanded out could not compromise the helmet at all, I was relieved and skeptical. I sent an email to HJC people and ask them about this, they said if I take out less than a quarter of an inch here and there relieving the tight spots that it would not affect the safety at all and agreed with me that since it fit more of my head it may even be better now than just fitting front and back.

I'll try some of the suggestions here. I rode today and after a few hours I had to return home. The pain to the front of my head above the forehead became too unbearable.

If you are sure of where the pressure spots are sand on them, you will notice some relief after only a few minutes of sanding the foam

Have you tried this? I wasn't sure if the padding can take the sanding without ruining it.

Bigfoot, it sounds like your head is similar shaped as mine - big and oblong. I currently have a HJC XXXL and I used a smooth rock to pound the forehead foam in a little.

If you are not averse to dropping a few bucks on a helmet, try on an Aria Profile. It is a full face helmet and is made in an oblong shape. It fits me perfectly (although I have not dropped the $500 to get one yet - this Christmas perhaps).

Stop by the International Motorcycle Show when it stops in your neighborhood (it is in DC on Jan 9-11, 2009). All the helmet manufacturers are there with helmets to try on. You WILL find one that will fit. As to whether you can afford it ... I can't say.

Good Luck finding the proper protection.

Thanks RR,

The last dealer I dealt with said that Aria did make anything larger than an XXL. Guess I'd better look into myself.

Yes, I know this works.
