Geez, almost got taken out twice today!

Incident #1 - I was riding in the right lane of a four lane divided highway. Coming the other direction was a funeral procession. The lead car in our group in the left lane figured they had to stop. The car right behind couldn't brake quick enough so they swerved into my lane causing me to go onto the shoulder to avoid getting hit.

Incident #2 - Minutes later, I rolled into town and was following a car. A school bus was coming the other way and stopped at a railroad crossing. They always stop and turn on their lights before crossing the tracks. For some reason, the car in front of me slammed on their brakes and stopped as well. I had to swerve around the car to avoid rear ending it. Lucky I had left enough room to do this.

Needless to say, I feel pretty lucky. Be careful out there.

only twice? you ought to come to missouri. only twice in one hour would be a Godsend. i live on the edge the whole time i ride. it's rough when i have to compete with thousands of cell phones, make up, and big macs for drivers attention. :sign29: :depressed:

I was recently in Utah to see my dad. Stayed on the east side of SLC by the University. Seemed like every driver up there was doing their level best to get 100 mpg. One old guy was driving like he was putting his own life blood down that carberator. I didn't think he would get through the interesection before the light changed. Then I got on the freeway and its like the Indy 500. People following so close I thought they were trying to save gas by drafting my rental car. An heaven forbid if somebody slowed down, I'd see 35 cars change lanes all at once jockeying for better position.

Came back to the Great state of Texas to find people a lot friendlier, only not always in a good way. Went to turn left at an intersection and had a lady coming the opposite direction stop at a green light and try to wave me through in front of her. Only problem was the drivers in the lane to her right didn't recognize her hand signals and came through like they had the right of way (which they did). When I didn't turn the old bat got mad and almost clipped me going through the yellow light. And people complain its to easy to get a gun permit!

Bob,

I have to agree. I used to think Oklahoma drivers were bad. People here are terrible. Most of them just seem to not know the laws.

Glad you are ok.

Hey Bob,

Glad you're ok. It's definitely a problem all over the place.Seems like cage drivers don't want to pay attention to the road. i've seen a lot of them with cell phones stuck to their ear and have seen some with DVD players mounted on their dash watching movies. Around here they also like to run stoplights and turn lights after they're red. Makes making left turns interesting. Maybe it's too easy for people to get driver's licenses.

You need to come to the big city or Indy and get away from Alex this is were the action is Bob, if they drive a BMW or Benz or cars of that nature then you are supposed to part and let them threw or they will run you over or off the road. You need to drive Atlanta the last time I was there you did 80 down town and every road is a peach tree something and then try to find you hotel now thats fun. ANyway glad you are ok and have a great weekend.

I have noticed also since they are picking corn and beans now there are alot of piles at corners and in the roads around me so watch out for those and dont get hurt.

Interesting thing about a funeral procession. In Tennessee, if you are not part of the procession, it is against the law to stop, according to a big article in our local paper. We still have people that will stop in the left lane of a four lane hi way when meeting a funeral procession. I assume if there is a crash, they will be charged with obstructing traffic.

I think it is a curtious gesture to slow down, but stopping in the middle of the street can cause another funeral.

You all ain't seen nothing. You need to come down here and see the race for dumbest driver between the Louisiana and Florida drivers. Louisiana has the lead but Florida is definitely trying to catch up.

Born and raised in New Orleans and I can attest to the fact that there are no worse drivers anywhere. If you come this way remember a few basic rules of the road.

1) Green= go

Yellow= go fast

Red= go really fast

2) One way streets do not exist because you are only going one way anyway

3) When turning at a neutral ground intersection "median for non nawlins folks" it is legal to drive against oncoming traffic as long as your destination is within one block.

4) Stop signs=what are they??

5) The only signal you need to use is the middle fingure after any of the above.

Yep, it was a close one. The car behind the one that stopped in the middle of the highway had to hit the brakes and swerve right towards me. Could have been a bad pile up there.

You got to wonder what the heck these folks are thinking! :puzzled:
