Double D Posted October 8, 2008 #1 Posted October 8, 2008 :confused07:I have a Piggy Backer trailer. I used the Modulite modual wiring kit in order to use the 4 pin wiring kits. My problem (on the trailer) is this, my brake lights and running lights work like they are supposed to. The turn signals work right also, BUT when I have the turn signal on and hit the brakes, the turn signal stops flashing. The turn signals, front and back, work properly on the bike. What did I do wrong with the wiring?
Tom Posted October 8, 2008 #2 Posted October 8, 2008 Not being there but just reading first thought is adequate ground??
MAINEAC Posted October 8, 2008 #3 Posted October 8, 2008 I'm not sure about that modulite thing i just used a hoppy generic 5 wire to 4 wire converter that I bought for $12 and it works fine...
BradT Posted October 8, 2008 #4 Posted October 8, 2008 Possible you have two problems with the wiring. Both related to hooking up the coorect wire at the bulb. Maybe you have them connected to the wrong side of the bulb. Brad
OutKast Posted October 8, 2008 #6 Posted October 8, 2008 Grounds. Unhitch trailer from bike. Lights should all still work through ground wire. My Piggy XL the marker lights not grounded. I changed them to LED anyway. Piggy says LED lighting package, but is only tail lights, front markers had peanut bulbs. You must scrape the paint from the frame where you mount the grounds for the tail lights.

Is there something that could have come loose at the modular?
Double D Posted October 10, 2008 Author #8 Posted October 10, 2008 I hooked the trailer and cooler rack to the Explorer and everything worked fine. Could it be the ground on the bike? Want to get some idea before I start.
BradT Posted October 11, 2008 #9 Posted October 11, 2008 Check the wiring of the modulite on the bike. Make sure all wires are connected well and to the correct wires. If it works well on the truck it most likely comeing from the bike, probably the modulite Brad
AZSpyder Posted October 11, 2008 #10 Posted October 11, 2008 Sounds straight forward enough. The running lights work, the brake lights work and the turn signals work. Break lights on and the turn signal doesn't keep flashing, you have a bad module or a bad ground going to the module! If you had a ground problem with the trailer you would see things like other lamp elements coming on dimly as the current goes across the other side of a dual element bulb to find another way to ground. The module would need a ground from somewhere to be able to switch the voltage on and off when both the brake and turn signal are on. The module should mix the separate turn signal and brake lights on the bike to a single combo brake/turn signal. When you have turn signal 12 volt blinking on and off into the module it should turn off the continuous break light voltage going through the module and blink the voltage instead. Jerry
AZSpyder Posted October 11, 2008 #11 Posted October 11, 2008 OK, one more idea. I took a look at what a "Modulite" is. Never messed with a lighting adaptor that prevents loading on the tow vehicle light, at least if your is like the one I saw on line. I suspect you would also have your problem if the Modulite didn't have a good connection to the battery, through a fuse of course. Jerry
nkbjones Posted October 11, 2008 #12 Posted October 11, 2008 I had a similar problem when I wired my trailer lights. It turned out that I had a bad unit as many others have had. I got the hoppy unit and it works perfectly. Return the modulite and get a hoppy to install, it will save frustration in the end.
