petekadish Posted October 7, 2008 #1 Posted October 7, 2008 Hey Everyone! As our riding season will soon begin to experience a chilly slow-down here in Utah, a few of us (couples mostly) are trying to plan one more overnight ride before the snow begins to fly in these parts. Last year around mid-October, we road up to Yellowstone Natl. Park. While that was a fun time, it got pretty cold and wet. Afterall, that's what happens in the Rocky Mountain's in October. We probably want to go sometime around the end of this October. This year, we thought that we would take a day or two and ride South down to Las Vegas and catch a performance of the Blue Man Group. I have already seen them on TV and on-line, and have heard that their live shows are awesome. So, that should fun. This is what we're looking for - the best deals there in Vegas that I can find. Either a package deal with a room at the Venitian along with the show, or perhaps an inexpensive hotel and some discounted show tickets from someplace. The hotel doesn't need to be anything more than a place to sleep. But, we do want someplace which is clean, comfortable and which is an unquestionably safe to park our bikes (and our bodies) at night. Can anyone offer us some suggestions? Thanks for the help! Be Safe! Pete & Sandy
friesman Posted October 7, 2008 #2 Posted October 7, 2008 I saw Blue Man Group in the Luxor about 10 years ago, and loved every moment of it, wish I could go! Brian
Jinksy4 Posted October 7, 2008 #3 Posted October 7, 2008 Have grandkids in Vegas. We stay at the Suncoast Hotel and Casino. It is an older hotel about 8 miles north of downtown that is clean and inexpensive. They may even be offering end of year specials soon - which can be up to 50% off normal rates.
Sunman Posted October 7, 2008 #4 Posted October 7, 2008 Well, as a frequent visitor to Vegas myself, I am there at least 3 times a year here is what I suggest. If you are a gambler, and play decent limits, most casinos should comp your room and food, I can't remember the last time I paid for food or lodging in Vegas. But if you are not interested in gambling, I suggest staying downtown, at the Plaza, or Binions, both very inexpensive. They are both older hotels, but recently re-done, and clean. Also, a much lower level of play, will earn you comps very quickly. Now, for show tickets, there is a place right on Freemont street, at the 4 queens casino, called tickets 4 tonight, they get all the unsold tickets for almost every show in Vegas, and they can be had for 50% off, the day of. Not sure about Blue Man group, but that show has been around for quite sometime, I would be surprised if they were selling out still. That is all the advice I can give ya. Good luck!
dynodon Posted October 7, 2008 #5 Posted October 7, 2008 I am too far away to participate, but I have a suggestion. The wife and I went to see both Blue Man Group and Cirque du Soleil the same week. We did enjoy Both, but if we had to choose just one for pure entertainment value, Cirque would win hands down. No contest. At the time Cirque just had two performances, the regular family one (something based around a monster) and the semi-nude "adults" show:no-no-no:. Well, we are midwesterners and opted for the regular one. We loved it. now they have several shows, and I don't think you can go wrong with any of them, but there are several sites if you just google them and Las Vegas, you can read up. Really, no contest. Blue Man got a little fussy and somewhat boring at points, trying to be "cool" for the sake of being cool, and it was just like what we had seen on TV. Cirque was 110% GO GO GO with something happening everywhere all the time. Never a dull moment, and heck even the family version leaves little to the imagination! Music was even better and still live. Don't think you can really lose with either one, just that Blue Man kind of doesn't stack up to the Cirque show for entertainment value. At least for us! Have a great time.
Aimhigh Posted October 8, 2008 #6 Posted October 8, 2008 I hear a lot of commercials for time share units that, if you do not mind giving a couple hours of your time to hear the spiel might be the "ticket." We've seen the Blue Man Group in Vegas and Chicago and love the show...definitely worth the time and money. Hope it all turns out well for you...enjoy.
kantornado Posted October 8, 2008 #7 Posted October 8, 2008 Pete when you going to be here in Vegas?? How many in your party? Its kinda dead on the strip and I feel there really going to be making deals in a couple weeks. The hookers where the only traffic on the strip on Sunday to today. Barrett Jackson will be here in a week and thats the only action I know of going on and the casinos are really excited about that because it will bring some high rollers and want to bees here for a few days. There hoping to re-coupe some revenue. The economy is down all over. The only casino that is doing good is Mandalay Bay there keeping right around 70 to 100% booked. But that will change after the auto auction......................Ron
petekadish Posted October 8, 2008 Author #8 Posted October 8, 2008 Hey guys! I think that we're planning on riding there the last weekend of this month. So far, I think that we might have anywhere from three to seven of us coming down. I expect that at least a few of us (though not me or Sandy) will probably flake-out. I don't expect that any of us will be doing much gambling. Most us us prefer to spend our limited funds on travel and safety-chrome. I wish that finances were't such a concern. I would love to go see both the Blue Man Group and Cirque de Sole, but after calculating all of our other expenses I expect that we won't be throwing much money around. I think that we would all also be interested in going to see Cirque de sole. But, again we would probably want to find some sort of great deal on tickets. A buddy of mine went down there last year and was able to see The Blue Man Group and investing a couple of hours of time sitting through some time-share pitch. Unfortunately, he can't remember who made the offer to him. But, he did say that it was a good trade off of his time. I would do that as well, if I could find out who is offering tickets for my time to sit through a sales pitch. I'll check-out the "tickets 4 tonight" place to see what kind of deals they might have. And, we will probably end-up staying at one of the less-expensive hotels, which offers decent rooms and which is safe and secure. If we do make it down there and the weather is good, and we have a little time to ride on Saturday morning or afternoon, are thare any "can't miss" places that anyone can reccomend? We only have a couple of days on this trip before we need to head back home. We have all been to Vegas and have seen the casinos, Cesar's Palace, and wandered around. But, it has been a little while. We're not into the "adult' side of things and none of us drink, so we would be more interested in the checking out more "conservative" types of entertainment if you know what I mean. Thanks! Pete.
ibents Posted October 8, 2008 #9 Posted October 8, 2008 [ Cirque was 110% GO GO GO with something happening everywhere all the time. Don't think you can really lose with either one, just that Blue Man kind of doesn't stack up to the Cirque show for entertainment value. At least for us! We just got back from Vegas and had a good time, weather was brilliant and I couldn't believe the number of motorcycles riding up and down the strip, solo and in groups of 8 or more...saw 2 Ventures....mainly Harley's. We have seen "Ka" at the MGM and "O" at the Belagio both are excellent Cirque shows, this last time we went and saw Carrot Top at the Luxor, he put on a great show, some of the material was hilarious and its probably one of the less expensive shows to see...$59 to $69... Unfortunately we didn't come back millionares, had just enough to get back across the border. Ian
petekadish Posted October 8, 2008 Author #10 Posted October 8, 2008 Carrot Top - Whoa, what happened to that guy over the past few years? It appears that he has adopted the raging-steroid, androgynous look. I mean, he has always looked pretty different, but he's scary-looking now. Pete.
dynodon Posted October 8, 2008 #11 Posted October 8, 2008 For ticket deals, of course look on-line, and when you check into the hotel, quite often they have deals right at the desk, and every time I have been to Vegas, they have people just standing in the aisles that hand out deals (not the hookers, they are usually on the street!). Tip: The wife and I decided to get married again last time we were there. Went out on the town, and at every stop, asked where the best place to get married was, and without a doubt it was the Little White Church. We went just for the basic deal, if you want flowers, other than taped music etc, it all adds up. We even got offered a limo ride back for free (went there in a cab, were going to get married at the drive-up, but they said we could come in for the same money, and get the limo ride home....they were hoping we would buy pictures/flowers/ring etc!). But here is the kicker. At dinner the restaurant bought us desert because we were getting remarried, and We got discounts on some other stuff. They love lovers in Vegas!
