Sleeperhawks Mechanic Posted October 6, 2008 #1 Posted October 6, 2008 What if I had not dropped the filter? What if we had not hugged our family one more time before leaving? What if Sleeperhawk had not pulled over for me to take that special picture? What if I had not run back for that one more camera shot? The list can go on and on for yesterday. We had just left Snake River Canyon on Arizona 77 and as we are apporaching a bend, cars coming towards us kept flashing their lights so we thought a bad wreck was ahead. No, instead a boulder the size of a small car was sitting dead center in the road. It, by the grace of God, did not hit any cars or trucks. It had just come out of the mountain because it had been raining and got dislodged! So yes, I believe our friendship guardian bells do work! Then on I-40 east of the Petrified Forest, we finally saw some elk! We have been seeing signs for elk, deer and animals the whole trip! Well, time to get on all this cold weather gear we have been hauling around all week. It is now 36 degrees here in Gallup, New Mexico! Off to Four Corners we go! Ride safe, Bobbie
Redneck Posted October 6, 2008 #2 Posted October 6, 2008 Running into that gravel could be bad for your health. Stay safe on your trip and enjoy.
wild hair 39 Posted October 6, 2008 #3 Posted October 6, 2008 that's:yikes: what i call a rock in the road
Eck Posted October 6, 2008 #4 Posted October 6, 2008 Glad you two are ok.....!!!!!!!!! four corners....
SenseiAlan Posted October 6, 2008 #5 Posted October 6, 2008 Wow! What a rock! You are right, that would have left a mark. Those elk are huge! (And I worry about the deer and turkey!) Those things are car-size! Have a good time!
Marcarl Posted October 6, 2008 #6 Posted October 6, 2008 Might have a little problem riding over that one,,, glad there was some room to get around it,,,,and it's nice to know that cagers care. Ride save and enjoy.
sarges46 Posted October 6, 2008 #7 Posted October 6, 2008 Now..that would give anyone a good excuse to change their undies! It is a good thing you like picture taking and all!
Tom Posted October 6, 2008 #9 Posted October 6, 2008 Bobbie,Glad you all are OK! I sure hope you take US 550 out of Durango to Ouray..You will not be disappointed! Take alot of pictures if you do and tell Sleeperhawk to keep his eyes on the road. Tom
Sweetnothing Posted October 6, 2008 #10 Posted October 6, 2008 Yep....talk about being in the wrong place at the right time. Looks like you two were!! We are glad of that one. You both be safe, and enjoy the rest of your trip!
KingSizer Posted October 6, 2008 #11 Posted October 6, 2008 Don't ya just hate it when there is gravel all over the road like that...
mini-muffin Posted October 6, 2008 #12 Posted October 6, 2008 At least the rock stopped in the middle of the road so you could get around it. Have fun and stay warm. Margaret
dragerman Posted October 6, 2008 #13 Posted October 6, 2008 It’s too big for a souvenir but kinda gives a whole new meaning to ‘rock and roll’! Glad no one got in the way of that.
Yammer Dan Posted October 6, 2008 #14 Posted October 6, 2008 Hey! i got some guys we could send out to turn it into gravel and put it on the sides of the road!!
petekadish Posted October 6, 2008 #15 Posted October 6, 2008 I hope that you took a moment to kick it off to the side of the road. :rotf:And, you know how they always say "you go where you're looking". So, when we see a rock laying in the road, we're not supposed to focus on it because then we tend to ride over it. So, when we see a rock this size . . . Pete.
pegscraper Posted October 6, 2008 #16 Posted October 6, 2008 Wow. I'd like to hear a rock that size hit the ground one time.
1BigDog Posted October 6, 2008 #17 Posted October 6, 2008 George, somehow I dont think thats what Bobbie had in mind when she asked you for a bigger rock...........
Dragonslayer Posted October 6, 2008 #18 Posted October 6, 2008 On my recent trip out west I kept seeing wildlife signs and falling rock signs. It pays to pay attention to them. In Georgia we worry about hitting a deer at night on the bike. Out west be mindfull of the Elk and the Buffaloe they are much much bigger than the deer. Be careful and have a safe trip home.
Dragonslayer Posted October 6, 2008 #19 Posted October 6, 2008 Wow! What a rock! You are right, that would have left a mark. Those elk are huge! (And I worry about the deer and turkey!) Those things are car-size! Have a good time! Wow I'd love to see a car sized turkey:scared: or a car sized deer for that matter. Now Elk, Moose Buffaloe and Boulders thats a whole different story.
Guest tessa c2 Posted October 7, 2008 #20 Posted October 7, 2008 okay you didn't see any road runner, or coyotes wondering around this rock? seen that happen a few times on tv when i was a kid:think:
FROG MAN Posted October 7, 2008 #22 Posted October 7, 2008 Had several close calls myself. A rock slide at 5am in the morning was one of them. Lots of stories of missed opportunities to leave this world before my time. But I'm not complaining. Like the song says everybody wants to go to Heaven but nobody wants to go now.Count your blessings for another day.
ventureblue Posted October 7, 2008 #23 Posted October 7, 2008 Wow that Rock is huge. I know Wendy and I would have need to change the linens. We hope you have a safe rest of your trip. good luck.
IH Truck Guy Posted October 7, 2008 #24 Posted October 7, 2008 okay you didn't see any road runner, or coyotes wondering around this rock? seen that happen a few times on tv when i was a kid:think: Now that's funny......:rotfl: Beep.....Beep
