TxVenture Posted October 4, 2008 #1 Posted October 4, 2008 The other day I wasn't really paying attention and was getting on a freeway. Normally will go almost to redline (7500 rpm) then shift. Well, wound it up and it started to "nose over". Never had this happen before, so looked at tach and it was almost to 9700 rpm!!! Now know how tight it will wind if I have to go there again.

I read somewhere that there's a rev limiter of 10g's built into the system. Maybe it's TCI controlled?? OR maybe the valves start to float...
Squidley Posted October 4, 2008 #3 Posted October 4, 2008 I usually found that I was grabbing a gear at about 8200 on the 1st gens. I could feel it start to wain a bit, but never floated a valve.
Snarley Bill Posted October 4, 2008 #4 Posted October 4, 2008 if i remember right my v-max was redlined at 9500. never watched the tach just shifted by feel. squeeze can probably elaborate on that.
Squeeze Posted October 4, 2008 #5 Posted October 4, 2008 if i remember right my v-max was redlined at 9500. never watched the tach just shifted by feel. squeeze can probably elaborate on that. You're right, 9500 is Redline on the Vmax and the VMAX. But the Venture's have different/'weaker' Valve Springs. That's why they're recommmended to a earlier Redline. I never go to Redline on my Max and never really watch for out the early Redline on my Venture. This Engine will take this without feeling abused. If the Day would come somewhere in the Future, i'd just put my spare Vmax Engine in the Venture. Only real Concern is when you go above 10500, then the upper Eye on the Con Rods will go out of shape and start ticking on the Piston Bolt. But hey, what's up with you Bill ? Being nice and not snarling, lately ? Had some Chalk for Dinner today ?

TxVenture Posted October 5, 2008 Author #7 Posted October 5, 2008 think I started floating the valves, didn't sound or feel like a rev limiter. Didn't seem to hurt it any, ran fine today. Didn't take it up over 5000 in any gear today tho. Don H.
