FROG MAN Posted October 1, 2008 Share #1 Posted October 1, 2008 Whats the deal here. Some cell providers charge for incoming calls. This was on a local tv newscast today.Nothing worse then telemarketers. http://www.wchstv.com/i/1x1spacer.gif EYEWITNESS LOCAL NEWS from Eyewitness News Online PESKY PROBLEM Cellphone Numbers Being Released http://www.wchstv.com/i/1x1spacer.gif Reported by: http://www.wchstv.com/bluemail.gif Rachel Tarr Videographer: Eyewitness News Web Producer: Jessica Reed October 1, 2008 1:36pm http://www.wchstv.com/i/1x1spacer.gif http://www.wchstv.com/newsroom/eyewitness/0810/i/081001_3000_320.jpg Eyewitness News Photo http://www.wchstv.com/i/1x1spacer.gif Today, all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies. If you don't want to get those calls, you can call 1-888-382-1222 from your cell phone to block the calls. You can also log on to donotcall.gov, and add up to three phone numbers you want blocked. Under a new law, these new registries will never expire.
mini-muffin Posted October 2, 2008 Share #2 Posted October 2, 2008 I've got all our numbers on the do not call list already. But that stinks that they'll release cell numbers to telemarketers. Margaret
pegscraper Posted October 2, 2008 Share #3 Posted October 2, 2008 It was only a matter of time. And, thanks.
SaltyDawg Posted October 2, 2008 Share #4 Posted October 2, 2008 If I don't recognize the number then I don't answer it. If it is someone who knows me they will leave a message and then I can get back to them. I didn't have a problem with telemarketers but about 4 years ago I lost my cell phone. Before I could get it shut off some woman found it and got my number. She has used it on her credit applications so about 4 times a month I get calls for her. I still get those calls. I used to call them back and tell them it isn't her number, but of course that doesn't help, they don't want to talk to me only her. How stupid is that. So I just ignore it. halfwitt Posted October 2, 2008 Share #5 Posted October 2, 2008 According to my friends at Snopes, this is not true: http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/cell411.asp
Lone Eagle Posted October 2, 2008 Share #6 Posted October 2, 2008 I had received that informatoin at work -so I sent it around and the Snopesters in our office got on my case that is isn't true. Maybe - maybe not. I know for a fact though that before I sent that e-mail out - I had gotten 3 telemarketing calls - so somehow the number(s) are getting out there. It only took me 15 seconds to do that do not call list call, I did, we'll see what happens.

Schlepporello Posted October 2, 2008 Share #9 Posted October 2, 2008 The only problem I've had is with people trying to sell me an extended warranty policy on my Dodge Pickemup.
FROG MAN Posted October 2, 2008 Author Share #10 Posted October 2, 2008 A little research the FTC says it is illegal and always has been for telemarketers to use auto dialers to call cell phones. If you are receiving calls in violation of the rules or the Do not call registry you can file a complaint here. http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm
