Condor Posted October 1, 2008 #1 Posted October 1, 2008 While poking around in our Classified section I saw this ad for an '88 with a bad second gear. I've never heard of this happening to a 1300 tranny before??... http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/1327/cat/3
Squeeze Posted October 2, 2008 #5 Posted October 2, 2008 If it would be a Pin Problem, most likely there wouldn't be any upper Gear shiftable. I'd say "lost second Gear" sounds more as a Case of bent Shift Fork or Shift Drum worn out. Or the Dogs need an undercut. If so, not an easy fix, the Motor has to come out and splitted.
mmaleney Posted February 2, 2012 #6 Posted February 2, 2012 Reading old post here and found something known as as a pin problem, I picked up a 83 parts bike and when i got it runnin down the road I find there is no gears 2nd to top, does this mean I have a pin problem and how do I go about geting my gears back.
Yammer Dan Posted February 2, 2012 #7 Posted February 2, 2012 I think its in Tech Library. You have to pull sidecase but its been a while since I was in there. Not a hard fix. Sounds a lot worse than it is.
mmaleney Posted February 2, 2012 #8 Posted February 2, 2012 Think I founded it unded " clunky shifting "thanks.
jasonm. Posted February 3, 2012 #9 Posted February 3, 2012 FYI, I had my tranny apart years ago due to a failed bearing. No real damage. But while in there I saw that ALL dogs are undercut on the 1300 gears. YES ALL. I had no rounding of dogs at all nor any type of wear after 70k+ miles. Maybe it's also the way I shift? Also, the pins fall out because the shift drum is "wobbling"...aka the case is worn where it rotates. OR the "pawls" that rotate the drum are loose.
