RSV Angel Posted September 27, 2008 #1 Posted September 27, 2008 I had to help out in our store in Dalton Ga. yesterday. I was on my way home and stopped to gas up my bike. As I was getting my gas a lady came out of the store, with a handful of bags. "We are out of gas", she said. I got my gas completely pumped but the car next to me only got 3 gallons in. When I got home I saw on TV that places all over the Atlanta, metro area were out of gas also. I took my wifes car and was going to go ahead and fill it up for her at my regular store on my route to work. I pulled up- slid my card-pumped in a nickles worth and bam they were out of gas. There were bags on all the pumps at the other 4 stores between there and home so she is stuck with a 1/2 tank of gas. Hopefully she will be able to get some by Tues. because that 1/2 tank will only take her to work and back 2&1/2 days! The police chief in Athens Ga. was advising people that were planning on coming to the UGA-Al. football game to not come if they couldn't make the round trip on 1 tank of gas. My daughter and son/nlaw were already on their way to the game. She called me from just east of Athens and said that from her house in Dalton,to where they were then only 3 places they had passed had any gas and the lines were way down the street and police were directing traffic. It is ridiculous to be afraid to go more than a tank away from home for fear of running out of gas. Sorry I just had to vent!
flb_78 Posted September 27, 2008 #2 Posted September 27, 2008 Thank your wonderful legislators for that. http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/wayoflife/09/22/atlanta.gas.crunch/index.html?imw=Y&iref=mpstoryemail Further complicating matters is that metro Atlanta has more stringent environmental requirements than other areas, meaning gas from other cities can't be brought in because it doesn't meet the city's smog requirements. There's plenty of gas, but it's just not good enough for Atlanta.
6pak Posted September 27, 2008 #3 Posted September 27, 2008 There doesn't seem to be a shortage up here in Knoxville, however on the way to work this am, I did notice a lot of difference in price. From $3.39 to $3.79 for regular. Didn't even look at plus or super.
DragonRider Posted September 27, 2008 #4 Posted September 27, 2008 If people would stick to their regular routines and not stop and top off their gas tank everytime they see a station with gas, we would be able to get back to normal.
Gray Ghost Posted September 28, 2008 #5 Posted September 28, 2008 There's plenty of gas, but it's just not good enough for Atlanta. They eased the restrictions on cleaner gas a few days ago.
flb_78 Posted September 28, 2008 #6 Posted September 28, 2008 They eased the restrictions on cleaner gas a few days ago. The president eased the EPA restrictions on imported gas, but Atlanta still requires gas to meet a strict level before it can be sold in city limits.
Gray Ghost Posted September 28, 2008 #7 Posted September 28, 2008 The president eased the EPA restrictions on imported gas, but Atlanta still requires gas to meet a strict level before it can be sold in city limits. Under EPA rules, Atlanta does require lower levels of sulfur in their gas. But the EPA restrictions have been lifted until October 12th. BEER30 Posted September 28, 2008 #8 Posted September 28, 2008 Before you know it , Pinto beans prices are going to sky-rocket ! BEER30
mini-muffin Posted September 28, 2008 #9 Posted September 28, 2008 Well just talked to my daughter she lives not far from rooster and she's on 1/4 of a tank and no gas to be had. This is odd cause the rest of the state has gas, actually our prices here are going down. So not really sure what the hold up is for the rest of the places to get gas. Margaret
RSV Angel Posted September 29, 2008 Author #10 Posted September 29, 2008 Hopefully all the gas crap will get fixed during this week. We rode to Rome this evening and saw 3 places that had gas availible. The lines were long to get into them. We were able to get some gas for Patsy's car yesterdy morning on the north end of Calhoun. She can make it to work and back all week now,and mabe the crises will be over. We are not gonna be doing a lot of extra driving during the week. I am riding my bike to work every chance I get. I can't always do it but when I can it really helps. I still think it sux the way the oil co. can just tighten the screws when they want to.
FairlaneDA Posted September 30, 2008 #11 Posted September 30, 2008 How big of a radius is this gas problem from Calhoun?? Going up to Tenn next week and then coming back down I-75. Will be in the 4-wheeler. Might throw in a couple of 5gal cans as spares.
ahoutzer Posted September 30, 2008 #12 Posted September 30, 2008 We have the shortage here, in northwestern South Carolina. People are sighting tanker trucks, following them until they stop and then long lines form until the station is empty again.
FairlaneDA Posted September 30, 2008 #13 Posted September 30, 2008 We were going to go up I-26 to I-40 from I-95 to the Piegon Forge area, then across Tenn and back down I-75 to Florida...
RSV Angel Posted September 30, 2008 Author #14 Posted September 30, 2008 Dave, They just said on Fox5 that this thing could last another cuppla weeks:doh: The thing is you never know who might have gas for a few hrs. and who dosen't. It is stretching at least to Chattanooga Tn to the north--and all around Atlanta. From what I have seen S. Ga. has no problems. If you are in cage I would try to fill up somewhere that would allow me to get thru Atlanta area. Then I'd try to not get below 1/2 tank b4 looking to fill again. Mite be kinda agravating but better safe than out of gas on side of road.
FairlaneDA Posted September 30, 2008 #15 Posted September 30, 2008 Craig, Is the diesel deal any better thats what I will be driving?? We will be leaving Cookeville, from there down to Atlanta is about 210 miles, I am good for about 400 on a tank, maybe fill up on the north side of Chattanooga if possiable. How is down by Macon, are they in good shape down there?? Like I said I will carry a couple of 5gal jugs with me just in case. Thanks for the info, Dave
mini-muffin Posted September 30, 2008 #16 Posted September 30, 2008 From what I've seen on the news the only gas they are getting when they get it is regular. They don't seem to have any diesel, or premium gas. Margaret
davepa Posted September 30, 2008 #17 Posted September 30, 2008 Just drove 31 hours from Everett, PA to Jacksonville, FL and back this past Friday 9/26 Had no trouble getting regular fuel...mid grade, premium, and diesel fuel was sold out at almost every station.
hipshot Posted October 2, 2008 #18 Posted October 2, 2008 on Monday, of this week, gas was $3.59.9, per gallon. yesterday, it was $3.45.9. today it is $3.26.9. why are prices falling so fast, and WHO, determines the "pump price", on a daily basis? just jt
McBrush Posted October 4, 2008 #19 Posted October 4, 2008 Prices in my neighborhood have been falling - fast! It seems to be localized, but the Marathon station I pass every day has gone below $3.00. I filled up this morning for $2.91 - didn't think I'd see that price this year!
hipshot Posted October 4, 2008 #20 Posted October 4, 2008 local gas fell to $3.14, yesterday. don't know if it will continue to go down or not, but i ain't complaining. just jt
ahoutzer Posted October 4, 2008 #21 Posted October 4, 2008 Still $3.79 here, but at least we have gas now. Still regular only, but that's all I use, anyway.
RSV Angel Posted October 5, 2008 Author #22 Posted October 5, 2008 This week has been a great improvement in the gas situation here in North Ga. It is still running around 3.75 to 4.20 in most areas but the lines are fewer. Deisel is around the same as regular gas now suprisingly. Next weekend we are going to take a trip up to the Smokies since Patsy's gas bubble from her eye surgery is finally gone and she can go to the higher elevations without danger. I don't anticipate a lot of problems with getting gas now.
hipshot Posted October 10, 2008 #23 Posted October 10, 2008 i bought gas, today, for $2.82, per gallon! sure does stink, when it burns , though! i don't know what they have added to it, but it ain't the same gas i got a year ago. just jt:dancefool::puzzled:
