1joeranger Posted April 20, 2009 #26 Posted April 20, 2009 Love my 2005 RSTD! The first time I saw one I didn't know what type of bike it was. Stunned to find out it was a Yamaha cause I just knew it was some kind of exotic, way out my league, expensive bike! I thought it was the sexiest thing I'd ever seen! The paint scheme Raven over Raspberry is what really sold me! Had mine now since last September! I hook a trailer to it when going long distance and ride cruiser style when going around town. I just cann't get enough of her! Only disappointment I encountered was the seat. My previous bike, a Honda Shadow 1100, had the most comfortable stock seat I have ever been on and it spoiled me! RSTD stock seats ... well they just suck! After some research and consideration I bought an "Ultimate Seat" which I absolutely love! I will admit I almost didn't get it due to the price but it has been one of the best investments I've made. Ride all day and forget my butt has been on a bike! I would love to add a cd player and speakers, cause I enjoy listening to books on tape while traveling! Just have not quite figured out how to do that without adding a fairing. I have thought about putting the cd player in the trailer and the speakers on the handlebars but someone more savy then me gonna have to tell me how to wire it! Anyhow hope this helps!!
RandyR Posted April 20, 2009 #27 Posted April 20, 2009 A couple more thoughts of mine. The stock RSTD seat is more comfortable than any MC seat I've had before, so all things are relative. I'd like the slightly larger RSV fuel tank on my RSTD. I expect that it would be a dropin swap, but I haven't heard of anyone doing this on the forum.
eazyduzzit Posted April 21, 2009 #28 Posted April 21, 2009 I have the RSTD. I like it a lot, especially the cruise and the 4 banger. I'll have to admit, I would like to have a trunk and radio. In a few years, when I get my house and truck paid off (2012) I may spring for a new Venture. I don't see how you can beat it with the looks, the comfort and a five year warranty. Now I have to disagree on a couple of points. I have ridden all winter on the Tour Deluxe and only got cold on the coldest days (in the 20s) With the lower fairings the only thing that got cold is my hands. It has a very large windshield and the combination of lower fairings and engine heat kept my feet warm even with tennis shoes on. The seat is also pretty comfortable for a stock seat. I may opt for the Rick Butler mod when I can figure out how to ride while my seat is off in the mail. Not because I am uncomfortable now, but because of all the raves I've read on this forum. It must be good. I tell you what though. The best thing I've seen so far is Bobby Duck's "Ultra-Star".
Pegasus1300 Posted April 21, 2009 #29 Posted April 21, 2009 I realy love my RSTD. I waited 12 years for 2008. I bought it when I was single. Now that I am married I'm glad I kept my 1987 Venture Royale. You can add everything to an RSTD but then it really isn't an RSTD anymore. And remember that rack mounts to the sissy bar which mounts to the fender and if you overload it you bend the fender( don't ask how I know this). It is not covered by warrenty. The load threshold is 10lbs ( as per yamaha).Yes it will take more but you run the risk of bending the fender. So what kind of riding are you MOSTLY going to do? Two up and lots of long distance or do you just like to carry a lot of stuff, go with the RSV. Some 2 up, short trips, once in a while a long one lots of solo time,go with the RSTD. But IMHO you can't miss with either one
naturbar Posted April 21, 2009 #30 Posted April 21, 2009 i was also wanting the cruiser look with the ability to have a detachable tour pak...but no one offered the detachable tour pak....until now. i am just about completed with my detachable package for RSTD. if you are interested pm me. here is the current thread on my detachable tour pak....best of luck whichever you decide you can't go wrong !! http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=34535 Buz
