Our venerable leader said, "As for the vent, I will not buy another shield with the Goldwing style vent. They are VERY hard to keep clean as the bugs and grime get between the vent flange and the shield. Plus, mine stop[ped] opening and closing correctly a couple of years ago. I will use the round pop out vents from now on and would just as soon install my own. It is very easy to do."

Before I order my Clearview windshield, I would like to know how many of you have vents and like them or do you agree with Freebird? Thanks for taking time giving me feedback.

I like my vent and the ability to aim the airflow as I ride.

I don't wash my bike very ofter so I'm not too worried about bug guts in the vent.

I love mine... All it takes is a bottle brush and a rag to clean the vents if the dirt bothers you enough. I have a "bike Brush" that is bigger and haven't given it a try yet.

It is an opinion think. We all have them and to each their own.

I like the look and functionality of the vent more than I do the round cut out ones.

IMHO of course!

I have the XXL Tinted Vented Clearview windshield. You could not pay me to give up my vent. I have no issues with keeping bugs out of it. Every once in a great while I'll get a bug that comes through the vent. To clean I just spay down my windshield and vent with plexus and give a short soak then wipe it clean. All the bugs just wipe away.

I have the vent and like the vent. Many years ago I had a Vetter Windjammer SS fairing with round pop-out vents. They never seemed to do anything to direct air onto me. The Goldwing vent in my ClearView can direct air right on me, so it is much more effective.

Yup. A few bugs get through even when closed. Cleaning is fun but does not outweigh the benefit of the vent.

Ponch

Who's cleaning that mess, you are lilbit.LOL

I'm going to have a vent of some kind!

The GW vent in my Clearview stopped working after a month or two. Handle finally fell off. Clearview sent me a new vent. They are not the easiest to install. I use the tall, wide Clearview as my winter shield. When I pulled it off a few months back, I noticed that the GW vent frame was cracked. It still worked though. I'm not sure our shields are shaped right for the GW vent. I (and I'm just speaking of me and my skill level) wouldn't want to cut holes a in shield that costs as much as the Clearview. If I could, I would try to talk them into another vent. The round ones are fine. If they wouldn't do that, I would look at alternative shields. If I felt I had to have a Clearview, and the only vent they would install is the GW, I'd take it.

I've got two round vents in my cut-down stock shield I use in the summer. They don't give me the same blast as the GW vent, but they keep the air moving well enough. In the hottest part of the summer, I use an evaporative vest for the 40 minute ride home. Enough air comes through those round vents to take about 2/3's of the water out of that vest.

I got my clearview xl with vent this year. (about 2500 miles ago)

I love the vent, and the lever works good so far.

the vent does require more cleaning, but I think it is worth it.

The xl shield is about 3 inches to tall for my likeing. Now I know I should have gotten a Lg. Too much money to buy another one though, this will do.

Have the vent in my XXL Clearview. I cannot feel any difference in warm weather, which is what I anticipated when I bought the shield. However, it was a blem and already had the vent. If I had to buy a new one, I would not get it again.

i have the xl, purchased in march 08,......i like the vent....along with what everyone else says, it also seems to reduce turbulence a little.......wished i would've gotten the xxl.....alan, wanna trade?

Same here, I love my vent. I use my stock shield in cooler weather only because its taller and blocks more cold air but I wouldn't and couldn't do the long trips we do without the vent.

OK...looks like I am certainly in the minority here. Maybe I should not have responded so quickly. In my Clearview shield, I have both types of vents. The Goldwing style in the middle and the round vents on each side. When I bought my Clearview about 9 years ago, it did not come with the vent. I installed the Goldwing style vent a few weeks after I got the shield. I think I bought the vent from JC Whitney. It has never been smooth to open and close and finally the spring and little ball bearing popped out and I lost them. It will now slowly open back up when I close it. It is very possible that Clearview is using a better quality vent than what I bought.

I agree with you guys, I would NOT want a shield without a vent. To be honest though, I really don't feel much if any air even with all three of mine open. I DO like the fact that it seems to break the "dead" area behind the shield so that you seem to get some air circulation. That is why I figure the round vents would do that just as well and be eaiser to clean and operate. With the new shield, I have installed only the round vents and I really haven ridden enough since doing so to have offered the opinion that I did. I THINK I will like them better but should have waited until I have put some miles on it before saying anything.

I Get Spoiled with My XXL Clearview Shield and vent, First Shield Flu over our heads, due to my negligence, and a week later I'm place order for new one. Vent Does a Job for me, and If Somebody wants more air, Buy Ceiling Fan.

the big thing i like about the vent on my wing is it reduces the vacuum behind the shield and eliminates air coming around the sides of the shield. i usually don't open it more than about an inch. can actually hear the radio clearer with it open slightly. :2133:
