Looking for advice on a small cut on my Dunlop Elite II D491 front sidewall. New set of tires last year, only about 2500 miles on them. Just noticed small cut on the sidewall. Doesn't look very deep at all, almost like it was just shaved back...I can see a white color underneath....but doesn't appear to be cut into that.

Trying to decide if I should replace it before a 2000 mile trip. It really doesn't seem bad at all, but then again if I'm laying across the highway somewhere I'm gonna be wondering why I didn't just spend the $200 to get it replaced! Any advice or experience with this kind of cut?:confused24:

Looks pretty small, if it were me, I wouldn't worry about it, but it's your call, :080402gudl_prv:.

From the photo I would say it is fine. When they build a white letter tire the entire sidewall under the black is made of white rubber. The black is only a final coating. It looks very shallow and if it want a white letter you would probably never have looked twice. No cords are visible or cut so I say it is fine to ride on.

Just got back after 1800 miles. Tire came thru the trip great. Before going I double/triple/quadruple checked it and then glued a 1/2" circle of tire patch over the cut. Kept checking it along the way & no loss of pressure or bulging seen. Thanks for all the advice!...JR
