Guest texasyamahamama Posted September 18, 2008 #1 Posted September 18, 2008 I have a small oil leak. It looks like it might be coming from the drive shaft. It's on the pavement just behind the sidestand. It's not much, but I plan on leaving tomorrow for Mississippi. Anybody have any ideas. Is there a place I can check the level in the drive shaft? Don't want any trouble on the road. Thanks for any help you guys can give me. Jackie
mtman Posted September 18, 2008 #2 Posted September 18, 2008 Sure... There is a plug at about the 3 o'clock position on the rear wheel part of the drive shaft assembly. The drain plug is on the bottom and there is a vent plug(breather)on the top. Anyway, fill the drive shaft up to the bottom of the plug threads with some 80-90 weight gear oil and you'll be good to go.
Venturous Randy Posted September 18, 2008 #3 Posted September 18, 2008 That drip is typically from oil migrating thru the stator wires. This is pretty common and more of a nuisance than anything. It would be a good idea to check your clutch reservior to make sure the slave is not leaking. RandyA

Might want to take a close look at the master cylinder and make sure you're not loosing fluid from the clutch.
Guest texasyamahamama Posted September 19, 2008 #5 Posted September 19, 2008 Thank you so much gentlemen. You guys are the best. I'm so glad that the Ambassador put me on to this site. I've never met a nicer bunch of people. You guys pray for me on this trip. I'm going solo. My son is not able to make it. Thanks again Jackie
