mtman Posted September 15, 2008 #1 Posted September 15, 2008 Seriously, I actually have a dead bug in my speedo. (See pic) Have no idea how it got there and I am not quite sure how to remove it. I assume I have to take the windshield off and the black cover off the gauges but now I get lost.
GigaWhiskey Posted September 15, 2008 #2 Posted September 15, 2008 That is hilarious. Use the speedo fix thread and then take the console apart. There are screws in the back of the console and one really teeny one in knob on the front.
Bubber Posted September 15, 2008 #3 Posted September 15, 2008 It is there for all eternity or untill you pass on this email to 50 of your closet friends, which ever comes first. Actally I beleive the unit is sealed so it must have gotten in there from the J-Pan conpany. Sorry about that. Steve
Snaggletooth Posted September 15, 2008 #4 Posted September 15, 2008 I can't beleive it but I'm going to walk away from this one. I'll come back later when I quit laughing. There must be a hundred 1 liners about dead bugs in speedos.
BoomerCPO Posted September 15, 2008 #5 Posted September 15, 2008 I would just look at it as a lightweight buddy.....and keep riding!
whozleft Posted September 15, 2008 #6 Posted September 15, 2008 Looks to me like if you get the bike up to say 140-150mph the speedo needle would cut that little critter up into pieces so small you'll never notice them.
mtman Posted September 15, 2008 Author #7 Posted September 15, 2008 Thanks GW, I'll give it a go one of these days, although the Padre has a good idea as well; 140-150 hummm . I was going to put this in the Jokes/Humor section, 'cept it's true which prove the point truth is sometimes stranger(or funnier) than fiction:crackup:
friesman Posted September 15, 2008 #8 Posted September 15, 2008 Is it driving you crazy enuf to find a small knurlled plastic knob, (like the ones that used to go on car speedos to turn the trip meter back to zero, or a small rubber plug), drill a hole in your clear plastic cover, get the bug out and insert the knob or plug with a small amount of silcone to make it look it belongs? Brian

Brian That's a totally cool idea. Would have never thought of that one. Think I'm going to wait 'till hurricane season is over and tear down the instrument cluster. I need to replace the bulb in the high beam indicator light thingy and grease the speedo cable anyway. I appreciate the idea tho:cool10:
BIG TOM Posted September 15, 2008 #10 Posted September 15, 2008 I can't beleive it but I'm going to walk away from this one. I'll come back later when I quit laughing. There must be a hundred 1 liners about dead bugs in speedos. CANT BELIEVE NO ONE IS GOING THERE...THERE IS HOPE FOR ALL OF US....PS I TOO REALLY WANT TO SAY SOMETHING,BUT I WONT....
AKRefugee Posted September 16, 2008 #11 Posted September 16, 2008 In aviation that there is what we call a "speed bug". And I see its already conveniently set for VMO (Max Operating Speed) NICE
