Condor Posted September 12, 2008 #1 Posted September 12, 2008 While watching a segment of American Thunder that covered the Harley History Museum, they covered a bike that had never been released to the public called the Nova. It had a V4 water cooled motor. Very interesting......... Did a little search on Google and came up with THIS
dynodon Posted September 12, 2008 #3 Posted September 12, 2008 Wow, A lot of What-if's there, but very interesting. Wonder if Yamaha got wind of that project and the Venture was the result?
Neil86 Posted September 12, 2008 #4 Posted September 12, 2008 (edited) interesting read....keep in mind the Venture evolved from the Vision which was a V Twin. If Harley was shopping for a factory for the Nova in 1984, the Yamaha Vision 550 and Venture had already been on the market 2 yrs. Isn't the Venture engine said to have been designed by Porsche as well? Edited September 13, 2008 by Neil86 added Yamaha 550 to Vision model..
hipshot Posted September 12, 2008 #5 Posted September 12, 2008 It wouldn't surprise me, if the "NOVA" project was resurrected. i seem to recall some talk, a while back, about Harley coming out with a water cooled v4, metric, sometime in the near future! just jt

I have never heard this. Remember, Yamaha has a pretty good engine design team, they designed and built the great engine that was in the SHO Tarsus. The first year the SHO came out, I believe it was one of the quickest cars out. I believe it was even quicker than the 5.0 Mustang GTs. RandyA
Gene-b Posted September 12, 2008 #7 Posted September 12, 2008 The way I see it, Harley did not want to ruin their hard earned reputation by selling a high quality motorcycle. Best to hide it so the rest of the line doesen't look as bad! Gene
Gearhead Posted September 12, 2008 #8 Posted September 12, 2008 Isn't the Venture engine said to have been designed by Porsche as well? I don't think so. The HD VROD engine was. Jeremy
Neil86 Posted September 13, 2008 #9 Posted September 13, 2008 Yes knew about the VRod...this story predates the VRod though...in any event just glad someone built the V4 we now enjoy as the Venture/VMAx.

It's the only one in the world..... We saw it when we toured the museum when Hal and Gayle were staying with us.. So I guess it was worth the visit..Pretty cool... Before that,I never knew it existed....
