Pegstr Posted September 10, 2008 #1 Posted September 10, 2008 OK Guys and Gals, I finally bit the dust and found a wireless internet that will work around here. It's the first day, so we will see what happens. Folks didn't like hughes.net around here and we couldn't get dsl even though we are about 2 miles out of town. It is under a half mile from here but we live on a dead end road so who knows when it will come thru. I didn't even know you could get broadband thru a cellular phone service and i've been skeptical, but they say as long as you have cell phone reception here, it will work. Take care and ride safe.
VTirelli Posted September 10, 2008 #2 Posted September 10, 2008 We have Broadband cards in the laptops we use in the PDs. They actually work pretty well. I would cancel my cable internet and get a card for my laptop but we have a PC in the house and would still need cable.
Redneck Posted September 10, 2008 #3 Posted September 10, 2008 I switched last month I got so disgusted with hughes net I dumped them and got two alltel modems. The two mobile modems combined are just a little more than hughes net was. They are much faster and I now carry one with me and have one at home hooked to a router.
Eugene Posted September 10, 2008 #4 Posted September 10, 2008 I have friends who winter in Texas and summer in Michigan - they have had the Verizon for a couple of years (card in a laptop) - they have had nothing but high praise for the service - wish it would work in Canada - may have to investigate next winter. Dragonslayer Posted September 10, 2008 #5 Posted September 10, 2008 OK Guys and Gals, I finally bit the dust and found a wireless internet that will work around here. I too have the Verizon wireless broadband modem and was also told that it would work anywhere I had phone signal. BULL S..ttttttt. I recently got back from a 6500 mile touring trip of the country and the system did not work not even once, even in areas where I had phone signal and good phone signal at times. As a result in the month time I was gone getting internet access was impossible therefore as a result I could not access email or ebay system and my ebay account got screwed up because I could not monitor what was going on with my sell items. I hope you have better luck I'm just saying I would not trust it for anything important it let me down. Being completely useless to me on this trip which is what I got it for in the first place I went back to Verizon to cancel it. Verizon said it would cost me $175.00 to cancel. I'm now contemplating getting a new carrier and telling Verizon to shove it.
