Patmac6075 Posted October 25, 2014 #1 Posted October 25, 2014 Want to remove my TCI to relocate it....got the air box out, and the battery box...where are the screws holding the TCI at? Thanks. Pat
frankd Posted October 25, 2014 #2 Posted October 25, 2014 I seem to remember that there are brackets on the sides of the TCI and bolts going into these brackets on the sides of the frame.
Venture n Dixie Posted October 25, 2014 #3 Posted October 25, 2014 Looks like you get to the screws from the bottom? Looks too much like brain surgery to me but I probably need to do it anyway. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=28640 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=63371 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=78022 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42139
Neil86 Posted October 25, 2014 #4 Posted October 25, 2014 On my 86, I went from bottom. Already had side grills and lowers off for valve clearance checks. Removed the heat shields atop front valve cover. If your 84 still has the YICS chamber it has to be removed. You will then see 2 JIS (Japanese philips) screws facing down. I used a socket with that bit on and air ratchet and out they came.
Flyinfool Posted October 25, 2014 #5 Posted October 25, 2014 My screws were already stripped out by PO. I used a hack saw blade and cut off the mounting ears. I was able to get the blade in there from the top. The mounting ears are only in the way for the relocation anyhow.
Prairiehammer Posted October 25, 2014 #6 Posted October 25, 2014 (edited) The screws holding the TCI are #3 JIS, as Neil says, however, I removed those screws utilizing a #3 Phillips bit, one inch long screwdriver insert bit; inserted into a ¼" socket attached to a stubby handled ratchet, worked well. Tape the #3 (NOT the common #2) screwdriver bit onto the ¼" socket to keep the bit from falling out. It helps to spray the screws with penetrating oil before attempting to remove them. Patmac6075 Posted October 25, 2014 Author #7 Posted October 25, 2014 Well.....this is how I got to the TCI, Basically removed all of the right side fairing...got to it pretty easy. Now comes the hard part...putting it all back together...in six months!
